AsureQuality Meat Processing Industry Animal Health Benchmarking System
AsureQuality is the largest and most internationally accredited provider of food safety and biosecurity services to the food and agricultural sectors in the southern hemisphere. A significant part of AsureQuality's business activity is government mandated meat inspection at more than 75 meat processing plants throughout New Zealand.
The Objective
The meat processing industry is intensely competitive with individual participants highly protective of commercially sensitive data. Never-the-less, if AsureQuality could present the industry with a national dataset of carcass disease, meat quality and performance information, then individual plants would be able to benchmark their performance against all plants in New Zealand and focus their improvement efforts accordingly.
In addition, for its own performance monitoring purposes, AsureQuality itself required comprehensive visibility of meat inspection metrics across the industry, available on a real time basis.
The Solution
Montage designed and built Pi3 Benchmarks, an on-line web portal for meat processing carcass health and quality information. Each plant has its own secure access to the portal and the information within is fully anonymised, ensuring a strict standard of commercial confidentiality.

AsureQuality meat inspection staff are present every day on every shift on every production line in all meat processing plants in New Zealand. Every carcass is fully inspected and a wealth of data collected. This data is conformed to a standard data model and optimised for analytical use in the Pi3 database. The data is loaded into the database on a daily basis and available on demand.
A very powerful, self service, report writing facility within the Pi3 Benchmarks portal allows plant managers to convert the data into business usable information. The report writer allows each user to custom design reports and maintain a library of commonly used reports.
As is typical for a benchmarking service, the reports present information in Pareto graph format (although a choice of formats is generally available) and multi dimensional reports can be produced by overlaying different data sets.
